The Ministry of Interior issued a most urgent letter to clarify the facts because on Saturday, August 24, 2024, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, acting Prime Minister, and Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, traveled to Chiang Rai Province to monitor, resolve problems, and assist people from the flood situation in Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province. It was found that the Chiang Rai Governor, as the Director of Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, was not in the area to command the incident and urgently resolve the problem. Throughout the day, there was no coordination to clarify the facts and the reason for not being in the area.

In addition, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior also issued a most urgent letter regarding consideration of guidelines for operations in the case of provinces that are disaster-affected areas, urging the provincial governors in their capacity as provincial disaster prevention and mitigation directors, deputy provincial governors, and related regional civil servants to refrain from leaving the province, except to perform duties as ordered by the Ministry of Interior or in necessary circumstances, and to notify their superiors for consideration and approval in all cases.
