The National Reform Council ordered water drainage to be appropriate and not affect people downstream.

Spokesperson for the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CCRES) confirmed that the Bhumibol Dam in Tak Province this year can receive enough water for the entire season’s rainfall. He ordered that water be released appropriately so that it does not affect people downstream. Meanwhile, the 4th Interior Minister, who directs the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation in Chiang Rai, received a report that the Mae Sai electricity system on the main road is back in service 100%. He ordered that the system be quickly connected to people’s homes and that garbage and water in the area be dealt with quickly.

Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, advisor to the Prime Minister and spokesman of the Flood, Storm and Landslide Relief Operation Center (FSOC) and the Forward FSOC in Chiang Rai Province, revealed that according to the news that a large amount of water from the upper part is flowing into the Bhumibol Dam, there is concern that it will not be enough and a large amount may have to be released. In the me
eting, the Central FSOC followed up with relevant agencies, both the Royal Irrigation Department and the Office of National Water Resources (ONWR), and it was confirmed that at present (September 30), the amount of water in the Bhumibol Dam in Sam Ngao District, Tak Province, has the capacity to receive a lot more water and the release of water from the dam will not affect the area downstream of the dam in any way.

‘Bhumibol Dam receives water from the Ping River and can hold up to 13,462 million cubic meters of water. Currently, the water volume is 8,247 million cubic meters or 61% of its capacity. It can still hold another 5,215 million cubic meters of water. From the meeting’s conclusion, the volume of water flowing into the dam is 134 million cubic meters per day, while the water discharge is only 1 million cubic meters, which is considered normal. The NESDB can confirm that the water discharge from the Bhumibol Dam will definitely not affect the area downstream of the dam. In addition, it has been concl
uded that by the end of next week, the northern region will enter the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the cold season, causing the amount of rain to decrease,’ said Mr. Jirayu.

Mr. Jirayu also said that the Forward Command Center, Chiang Rai Province, today, Ms. Thirat Rattanasri, Deputy Minister of Interior as the chairman of the Forward Command Center, along with General Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense, Advisor, held a meeting with the Forward Command Center at Chiang Rai Provincial Hall, in accordance with the Prime Minister’s policy that was ordered on Saturday, including following up on the work of the Forward Command Center. The working group reported that regarding the restoration of basic public utilities to alleviate the suffering of the people in the area, the Provincial Electricity Authority has now restored the power supply system to be fully operational, as well as the water supply system of the Provincial Waterworks Authority. In addition, the Chiang Rai PEA is exped
iting the connection of electricity from the main line system along the roads to people’s homes.

The spokesman of the Forward Command Center continued that the public asked the Center to urgently manage the waste and drain the stagnant wastewater, which was found to have a large amount of waste remaining in the area because the landfill was flooded. The solution was to set up a temporary waste collection point. The Center, led by Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, as the center’s chairman, is aware of the problem and has ordered Ms. Thirat Samretwanich, Deputy Minister of Interior, as the chairperson of the Forward Command Center, to urgently resolve the problem as soon as possible.
