Chiang Mai residents must brace for another round of flooding after the Ping River reached its highest level of 4.81 meters at 2 a.m., causing water to overflow into many areas in the city over a wide area, including the Night Bazaar shopping area.
The Night Bazaar area, which is an important commercial area in Chiang Mai, extending to Chang Klan Road, has now turned into a canal after the Ping River overflowed, reaching a height of about 50-70 cm. Small vehicles have difficulty traveling after the Ping River overflowed its banks and flooded since early morning. However, shops are prepared, both by moving their belongings to higher ground and placing sandbags. This area is also full of large hotels, which require large vehicles to transport tourists in and out of the hotels, which is difficult. Not only this area, but the Ping River, which rose to a maximum of 4 meters and 81 centimeters, although lower than the previous round, has flooded many communities in Chiang Mai over a wide area, especially within a
1-kilometer radius of the Ping River. In some places, the water level is higher than 1 meter, such as the Pa Phrao Nok community and Charoen Prathet Road, which were the first checkpoints to receive water since last night. In addition, the Gymkhana Golf Course in the Wat Muang Kai area is almost completely flooded. Many other communities have been severely affected because the Ping River has been at a high level of 4 meters and 80 centimeters for several hours.
And now the Ping River level remains at 4 meters 83 centimeters. The villagers are now praying that the water situation will not get any worse or that this will be the last round for the people of Chiang Mai.
