The Prime Minister discussed with the President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR regarding concerns about flooding.


Lao PDR, 8 Oct – “Paetongtarn”, Prime Minister, discussed with the President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR. Both parties were concerned about the people affected by the flood situation and were ready to find a way to jointly solve the problem.

Reporters reported that at 4:30 p.m., Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, discussed with Mr. Saysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic during her official visit to the Lao PDR in a continuous manner with the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits.

Afterwards, Mr. Jirayu Huangtrakul, Government Spokesperson, summarized the important points as follows: The Prime Minister expressed his delight at visiting the Lao PDR, which was warmly welcomed and the first country to make an official visit since assuming office, reflecting the importance of the close strategic partnership and readiness to push forward cooperation between Thailand and the Lao PDR in various areas to achieve more tangibl
e results. On this occasion, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences and concern for the Lao people affected by the flood situation in several provinces. He informed the President of the National Assembly that the Thai government had donated 2.9 million baht and that Thai sectors had also provided assistance to the Lao PDR with another 3.9 million baht to support the Lao PDR’s recovery, including providing a budget of 2.1 million baht to the National Assembly of the Lao PDR to host the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Vientiane next week.

The President of the National Assembly congratulated the Prime Minister on assuming the position of the 31st Prime Minister, a new generation of leading politicians, and believed that the relationship between Thailand and Laos would become closer. The Lao legislature is interested in agriculture and education and has received good support from Thailand in helping to improve the quality of life of the people in the area.
