The Secretary-General of the National Police Commission confirmed that the meeting selected ‘Big Tai’ to be the National Police Chief with great care.

The Secretary-General of the National Police Commission confirmed that the meeting to select ‘Big Tai’ as the National Police Chief was conducted with great care. The issue of the NACC was ineffective. As for the case of the Administrative Court’s order, ‘Big Joke’ is not related to the appointment agenda.

Today (October 7), after the 8th/2024 meeting of the Royal Thai Police Commission (RTP), there was an agenda to appoint the 15th National Police Chief (NPC). Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, walked down from the meeting room with a smile on her face, along with Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Acting National Police Chief.

When asked if the meeting had already proposed the appointment of a new national police chief, whether it was the person the prime minister had in mind, and whether it was the person walking beside him, the prime minister smiled before turning to answer that the police would be the ones to make the announcement and immediately left.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Anucha Romyanon, Commissioner
of the Royal Thai Police Commission and Secretary, said that the appointment of the National Police Commissioner today was resolved by the meeting. The appointment is under the authority of the Prime Minister who proposes the names of qualified persons for the meeting to vote. Everything was done according to the law. After this is the process that must be done according to the law in order to be effective.

Today, the Prime Minister proposed only one name, and in the meeting, the information including the history of government service, conduct, and seniority were discussed and examined carefully and thoroughly, leading to a unanimous vote with no objections. The time frame of the meeting was appropriate, not too slow or too fast.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Anucha continued that as for the prime minister’s consideration, the three candidates had previously submitted personal information and results of their actions to the Prime Minister’s Office in advance for consideration. As for the consideration of appointments from
the deputy national police chief to the commander, the

appointment period has been extended. It is expected to be completed by December 15, 2024 or may be completed sooner.

When asked about the case in which the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) accused Pol. Gen. Kittirat of the procurement of equipment for the Patrol and Special Operation Division (Police 191), Pol. Lt. Gen. Anucha said that the meeting had considered this matter thoroughly before today’s agenda meeting. However, since the NACC had not yet made a decision on guilt or issued any orders, Pol. Gen. Kittirat was still innocent.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Anucha spoke about the case in which Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakpal, former deputy national police chief, filed a petition with the Administrative Court to consider temporarily protecting his position, saying that the process should follow the justice process. If the results are one way or another, the Royal Thai Police will return to consider the court’s order. This matter is not related to today’s a
genda for considering the appointment of the national police chief.
