Thieves Target Copper in Bold Factory Heist, Injure Security Guard

Chonburi: Thieves broke into a factory in Rojana Industrial Estate, Chonburi Province, and cut the electric wires, injuring a security guard. The estimated damage is almost 1 million baht.

According to Thai News Agency, Bang Lamung Police Station officers received a report of a burglary at a factory in Rojana Industrial Estate, Village No. 2, Takhian Tia Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. The village headman of Takhian Tia Subdistrict, village headman of Village No. 1, and advisor to the mayor of Takhian Tia Subdistrict, along with assistant village headmen in the area, jointly inspected the area.

Inside the factory, large electrical wires were found piled up next to the wall, totaling 12 large rolls and 1 small roll. However, it was found that 1 large roll and 1 small roll had been cut and gone. However, later, the officers were able to recover 1 large roll of electrical wires, while the small rolls could not be retrieved because they had been cut into pieces and could not be used.

Mr. Jirawet, a security guard at the company, said that yesterday at 3:10 a.m. while on duty, he heard an unusual noise and went to investigate. He found a group of about 6 people wearing masks breaking into the factory. It is estimated that they started their attack around 2 a.m.

The assailant also physically assaulted Mr. Jirawet, who sustained injuries to his neck, requiring six stitches, before he was able to climb over a 2.20-meter high wall and escape with some electrical wires, but was unable to escape with all of his belongings.

The factory is owned by Chinese investors and produces iron chains for ship anchors. The cut wires were worth almost 1 million baht, although they could only be sold for tens of thousands of baht. The factory is under construction and employs many foreign workers. Officials found CCTV cameras installed, but they were not working because there were no memory cards. Police officers from Ban Na Wang Police Station have inspected the area and are in the process of collecting evidence to track down the culprits and bring them to justice.
