Thunderstorms Expected to Affect 60% of Bangkok and Surrounding Areas

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued an alert indicating a 60% chance of thunderstorms in Bangkok and its surrounding areas. This weather condition is expected to bring significant rainfall to the region, with the possibility of waves reaching over 2 meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms.

According to Thai News Agency, the forecast for the next 24 hours highlights the impact of a low-pressure area over upper Laos and Vietnam, intensified by the southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. This combination is likely to cause thunderstorms across various regions of Thailand.

In the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, wave heights are predicted to be about 1 meter under normal conditions. However, in regions impacted by thunderstorms, waves could exceed 2 meters. Boat operators in these areas are advised to exercise caution and avoid navigating through thunderstorm-affected zones.

The regional weather forecast indicates varying chances of thunderstorms across Thailand. In the Northern Region, 40% of areas, including provinces like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, are expected to experience thunderstorms. The Northeastern Region anticipates thunderstorms in 30% of its area, while the Central Region forecasts a 40% chance of storms. The Eastern Region, similar to Bangkok, is expected to see thunderstorms in 60% of its area. Southern Thailand, both on the East and West Coasts, is predicted to have thunderstorms affecting 40% of the area, with significant wave activity in storm locations.
