The Bintan District Administration in Riau Islands Province, has set a target of attracting 3,000 foreign tourists to visit the area during Tour de Bintan.
The target was realistic because the international sport tourism event would be participated in by 800 cyclists who were also expected to bring along their family members such as wives and children to Bintan, Head of the Bintan Tourism Office Arif Sumarsono said here on Saturday.
The world-class Tour de Bintan cycling race will be organized on October 14, 2022.
The event’s participants would come from Singapore, England, Australia, Malaysia, America, Japan, France, Germany, the Philippines and Hong Kong, as well as various regions in Indonesia.
The number of participants from Singapore accounts for 40 percent of the Tour de Bintan’s total participants, while the UK 13 percent, Australia 7 percent , Malaysia 4 percent, and from Indonesia 5 percent.
“Based on our experience in organizing this event, the average participant does not come alone. Some of them bring their family members, some are with their friends,” he said.
All Tour de Bintan participants will be accommodated at a number of luxury hotels in the tourism area in Lagoi, Bintan.
“They stay in Lagoi because all participants start at Simpang Lagoi,” he said.
He estimated that each participant will stay at the hotel for 3-5 days. Each participant and family is estimated to spend around Rp2-5 million per day.
“Of course this will also have a positive impact on the tourism business, including increasing micro, small and medium enterprises’ earnings, and increasing regional income,” he said.
Cyclists in the Tour de Bintan will cross a number of tourism areas starting from the Simpang Lagoi area. The participants will enjoy fresh air and beautiful beaches while cycling.
The race’s categories in the Tour de Bintan are Individual Time Trial stretching 175 kilometers, Grand Fondo Challenge 85 kilometers, Grand Fondo Classic 146 kilometers, Grand Fondo Century 108 kilometers, and Grand Fondo Discovery 55 kilometers.
