Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno opened the 2022 Pesona Belitung Beach Festival at the Tanjung Pendam Beach, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, on Wednesday afternoon.
“I officially opened the 2022 Pesona Belitung Beach Festival while still complying with health protocols in order to maintain the momentum of our tourism revival,” he remarked in Tanjung Pendam on Wednesday.
Minister Uno lauded the 2022 Pesona Belitung Beach Festival that was selected to be held under the ministry’s 2022 Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) Program, with the objective of promoting tourism destinations; increasing tourist visits; empowering the local potential; and yielding positive economic, social, and cultural impacts.
“The 2022 Pesona Belitung Beach Festival is a top event. We are very grateful for the welcome extended by the community,” he affirmed.
Uno assessed that implementation of the Pesona Belitung Festival can support the revival of tourism in Belitung that has been designated as a UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGp), Tourism Special Economic Zone, and one of the 10 priority tourism destinations in Indonesia.
“In the near future, Belitung will come under the global spotlight, with the G20 Development Ministerial meeting on September 7-9,” he stated.
The minister also highlighted that Indonesian’s tourism ranking rose by 12 places to reach 32nd position out of the 117 countries around the world.
“Indonesian tourism beats that of Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia for the first time, (thereby) showing that Indonesian tourism increasingly (has) quality, sustainability, and inclusivity,” he affirmed.
The 2022 Pesona Belitung Beach Festival features a plethora of events, such as the Pelangi Budaya Parade and exhibitions of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and creative local products.
“We are very honored that the 2022 Pesona Belitung Beach Festival can be attended and opened directly by Mr. Uno,” Belitung District Head Sahani Saleh remarked.
