Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Treasury announced that by the end of May, there will be a decision on whether to claim compensation from former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. This decision relates to her involvement in the rice pledging case that resulted in damages amounting to 10,028 million baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Laworn Sangsanit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, discussed the timeline for the compensation process following the Supreme Administrative Court’s ruling. The case involves sales of rice under government-to-government agreements. Mr. Laworn stated that a legal team is currently summarizing the case for Mr. Pichai Chunwachira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, who will make the final decision.
In response to inquiries about when a resolution is expected, Mr. Laworn mentioned that clarity should be achieved by the end of May. He also noted that any adjustments to the 10,028 million baht compensation amount would be based on the court’s verdict and applicable deductions.
When questioned about the necessity of forming a committee to manage this issue, Mr. Laworn explained that the process follows established legal procedures for liability and violations, which outline the necessary steps. He emphasized that the Minister of Finance will address the matter once the legal review is complete.
