TRINITY Anticipates Suriya to Lead Cabinet Before Transfer to Phumtham as Acting PM

Bangkok: TRINITY expects 'Suriya' to sit as acting PM, leading the cabinet to swear an oath before moving 'Phumtham' to sit as acting PM instead. It is estimated that if the Constitutional Court finds 'Paethongtarn' guilty, a new PM must be elected. However, if the Pheu Thai government receives more than 250 votes, it will not be an obstacle to political stability.

According to Thai News Agency, Trinity Securities Co., Ltd. (TRINITY) analyzed the situation after the Constitutional Court accepted the petition of the Senate and ordered Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, to temporarily suspend her duties. The view remains that the order will not have any effect on the executive branch because during this period, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, is acting Prime Minister instead, who can lead the new Cabinet to swear in on July 3. After that, Mr. Phumtham Vejjachai, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, may take the position of acting Prime Minister instead.

While the court is considering the petition, which could take months, it believes that this factor will not affect the work of the council, which is set to open its regular session on July 3.

However, if Ms. Paethongtarn is found guilty, the parliamentary process to select a new prime minister will have to begin, and the Pheu Thai Party will already have a candidate waiting. As long as the government's votes remain a majority of more than 250, it is expected that this will not be an obstacle to political stability.

However, if the Thai stock market adjusts down due to investor concerns, it is still seen as an interesting opportunity to 'Buy on Weakness' as long as the draft budget bill remains on the original timeline. It is still estimated that the SET Index will not fall below the original low of 1,050 points.
