Bangkok: “Trisulee” has urged the government to revoke the royal decorations awarded to Hun Sen during Thaksin Shinawatra’s tenure as Prime Minister in 2001. The call comes amid ongoing discussions about the implications and significance of such honors in the current political context.
According to Thai News Agency, the royal decorations were officially published in the Royal Gazette on 30 November 2001. The announcement from the Office of the Prime Minister detailed the granting of these honors to foreign dignitaries, including high-ranking officials from Cambodia, for their roles in enhancing bilateral relations between Thailand and Cambodia. The honors were bestowed following an official visit to Thailand by Cambodian officials from 13-15 November 2001.
The royal decorations were awarded to three Cambodian officials: HE Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister, who received The Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant, and two Senior Ministers, Mr. Hor Namhong and Mr. Sok An, who also received the same order. The announcement was made by Police Lieutenant Colonel Thaksin Shinawatra, serving as Prime Minister at the time, on 16 November 2001.
