Bangkok: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that President Donald Trump has reached out to Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister, Phumtham Vejjayachai, with a proposal for an immediate ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. The Ministry expressed Thailand’s gratitude for Trump’s concern and goodwill, stating that while Thailand agrees to a ceasefire in principle, it seeks to gauge Cambodia’s true intentions before proceeding.
According to Thai News Agency, Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Vejjayachai had a telephone conversation with President Trump, during which Trump suggested that both nations implement a ceasefire without delay. Phumtham conveyed appreciation for the United States’ involvement and confirmed that Thailand is open to the ceasefire. However, he emphasized the need for Cambodia to demonstrate sincerity regarding this proposal.
The Ministry further elaborated that Thailand has requested the United States to communicate its desire to Cambodia for bilateral discussions at the earliest opportunity. These talks aim to establish clear measures and procedures for the ceasefire, ultimately leading to a peaceful and sustainable resolution of the ongoing dispute.
