University Of Ghana Centre For Ageing Studies Donates 90 Wheelchairs To Disability Organizations

Accra: The Centre for Ageing Studies at the University of Ghana Legon has presented 90 wheelchairs to representatives of organizations supporting persons with disabilities. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with EPIROC Limited, a distributor of mining equipment, FRIMPS Oil Company in Accra, and The Church of Pentecost in the Sakomono area, who collectively contributed GHS 180,000 for the purchase of the wheelchairs.

According to Ghana News Agency, the recipients of the wheelchairs included representatives from the Ho Geriatric Centre in the Volta Region, Korle-Bu Geriatric Centre in Accra, the University of Ghana Pensioners Association Legon (UGPA), the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO), and The Church of Pentecost. Additional beneficiaries were The Amrahia Trent Seniors Haven, The Tobinco Company, The Graceful Greyers, The Government of Ghana Pensioners, and The Dodowa Zones 1, 2, and 3.

During the presentation, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gordon Awandare, expressed gratitude to the Centre and donors for their contributions, stating that the initiative was raising the profile of the University of Ghana by positively impacting lives. The Head of the Centre, Reverend Professor Joseph Osafo Adu, addressed the gathering, announcing plans to celebrate the Centre's 10th anniversary next year at Mamfe on the Mountains with an organized float. He also pledged to advocate for the passage of the Bill for Older Persons in Parliament.

The event was attended by former Heads of the Centre, Prof. Charles Mate-Kole and Prof. Mavis Dako-Gyeke.
