US Budget Cut for Refugee Camps Raises Concerns in Thailand

Bangkok: Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has expressed concerns over the United States’ decision to cut the budget for refugee camps. He emphasized that while the issue needs to be addressed, it is crucial to consider the burden on Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, the US is set to end its budget assistance to international organizations by July, affecting refugees along the Thai border. Mr. Phumtham stated that the situation is a consequence of US policy, and while it is within the US’s rights to manage their assistance, Thailand must be aware of the responsibilities it will have to shoulder. He highlighted the importance of taking necessary actions to resolve the issue in a manner that maximizes the benefits for Thailand.
