President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded people that COVID-19 vaccination is aimed at building immunity and protecting the community from the threat of COVID-19.
“Vaccination can protect us, our community from COVID-19 transmission, especially the Omicron variant,” the president remarked while reviewing COVID-19 vaccination here on Friday.
During his review, the president was accompanied by Central Sulawesi Governor Rusdy Mastura, Palu Mayor Hadianto Rasyid, and State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir.
On the occasion, President Jokowi admitted to being glad to be able to directly review the vaccination activities in Palu City due to the high level of enthusiasm among members of the community to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The recipients for the vaccination reviewed directly by the president in Palu City comprised students of the Inpres 1 Birobuli State Elementary School, Inpres 2 Birobuli State Elementary School, and Inpres 4 Birobuli State Elementary School.
Jokowi also virtually reviewed the vaccinations in Mabelopura, Kamonji, Singgani, Sangurara, Birobuli, Mamboro, Bulili, Talise, and Lare community health centers.
The Central Sulawesi governor conveyed to the president that he had issued Circular Number 4 of 2022 on activity restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic that includes the reactivation of village-level COVID-19 posts in a bid to prevent transmission and the increase in COVID-19 cases.
Based on data from the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government as of February 24, 2022, out of the 2,135,907 target recipients in the province, vaccination coverage for the first dose had reached 87.19 percent, 49.57 percent for the second dose vaccination, while 1.71 percent coverage for the booster or third dose.
The Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021, as part of the efforts to boost community immunity against COVID-19. President Joko Widodo was the first vaccine recipient under the program.
According to data provided by the Health Ministry, as of February 25, 2022, nearly 190,531,114 Indonesians have received their first COVID-19 jab, 143,280,295 have been fully vaccinated, and 9,542,165 have received the booster shot.
