Vice president presses for synergy in war on drugs

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has emphasized the importance of synergy and cooperation between all parties, at the regional, national, and international levels, in the war on drugs in Indonesia.

“The war against drugs requires synergy and cooperation at the national, regional and international levels, especially in investigation activities, information exchange, and joint operations,” Amin remarked while attending the online commemoration of International Anti Narcotics Day (HANI) 2021 from the vice president’s official residence here on Monday.

The vice president called for taking firm steps to enforce the law against drug abusers. Moreover, it is important to combat the crime of money laundering (TPPU) from drug abuse.

“Firm, hard, and measurable action through law enforcement efforts is deemed necessary, both in the narcotics case itself and the Money Laundering Crime (TPPU),” he reiterated. Efforts to impoverish the perpetrators of abuse and drug syndicates can be one approach to halting the circulation of narcotics and illegal drugs.

“Confiscation of assets to impoverish perpetrators and drug syndicates is also one of the effective ways to stop the production and circulation of drugs,” he stated.

In addition, the fight against drug trafficking in Indonesia necessitates cooperation with various countries, as most drugs come from abroad, including syndicates in the golden triangle and golden crescent areas.

“(Drugs) are smuggled and controlled by international syndicates in cooperation with domestic syndicates,” he noted.

Hence, Amin has urged the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and all relevant components of the nation to continue to play an active role and work concretely and seriously to combat drug syndicates.

“Do not become complacent or careless. Stay alert and continue to improve on the achievements that have been made,” he remarked.
