Vietnam and Peru’s Communist Parties Aim to Bolster Cooperation

Hanoi: In a move to strengthen international ties, Tran Tuan Anh, Politburo member and Chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Economic Commission, welcomed Secretary General of the Peruvian Communist Party (PCP) Luis Alberto Villanueva Carbajal in Hanoi. Carbajal is on his inaugural working visit to Vietnam, which spans from November 9 to 19.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Anh emphasized the CPV’s commitment to enhancing relations with countries and parties sharing traditional ties, including the PCP, according to a report from the meeting. This effort aligns with the CPV’s broader goal of promoting peace, cooperation, and development globally.

Highlighting the progression of economic, trade, and investment relations between Vietnam and Peru, Anh noted the significant potential and opportunities for cooperation. The existing ties are bolstered by both nations’ membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), with two-way trade witnessing an upward trajectory.

Anh proposed that the PCP and the “United for Peru” leftwing coalition actively support initiating Free Trade Agreement negotiations between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR). This would capitalize on the strengths and potentials of each country. He also suggested enhancing high-level delegation exchanges, party-to-party cooperation, bilateral cooperation mechanisms, trade exchanges, and close collaboration at multilateral forums such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and CPTPP.

Anh expressed his belief that the upcoming 30th anniversary of Vietnam-Peru diplomatic ties in 2024 will mark a significant milestone in the multifaceted cooperation between the two parties and countries, encompassing politics, economy, culture, sports, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Villanueva Carbajal, acknowledging the policies and guidelines of the Vietnamese Party and State, reiterated the PCP’s value of its traditional relationship and solidarity with the CPV. He committed to enhancing relations between Vietnam and Peru, as well as with MERCOSUR, for the mutual benefit of both nations and in pursuit of global peace, stability, cooperation, and development.

In a meeting earlier that day, Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and Chairman of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, held talks with the PCP delegation. They exchanged information about their respective parties and countries, discussed global and regional matters of shared interest, and explored ways to improve cooperation effectiveness between the CPV and CPC.

Both parties agreed to increase information and opinion exchanges, support each other at international political party forums, enhance friendly exchanges, advance economic cooperation, and jointly commemorate the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations next year.

During their visit, the PCP delegation plans to meet with various Vietnamese organizations and institutions, including the Central Theoretical Council, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They will also visit economic groups and enterprises, and undertake working trips to Quang Ninh province and Ho Chi Minh City.
