Vietnam Commits to Supporting Cuba’s Sustainable Development in Collaboration with UN

Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, has affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to work with the United Nations in assisting Cuba with the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. This commitment was made during a recent working session with UN Resident Coordinator in Cuba, Francisco Pichon.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Ambassador Giang highlighted the special bond between Vietnam and Cuba and informed Pichon of Vietnam’s active support for Cuba through various mechanisms. These include the South – South Cooperation and trilateral cooperation, especially in agriculture and food sectors.

Pichon, who previously served as the representative of the International Fund for Agricultural Development to Vietnam, noted that Cuba faces significant challenges in post-pandemic recovery and implementing the 2030 Agenda. The UN is executing a sustainable development cooperation framework from 2020-2024 to assist Cuba, focusing on economic issues, natural disaster mitigation, agriculture, and food security. He expressed hope for Vietnam’s participation in the UN’s efforts through sharing its development experience and practices.

Ambassador Giang reiterated Vietnam’s willingness to partner with the UN to help Cuba overcome its challenges and make significant progress in achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
