Hanoi: Vietnam has expressed its full support for ASEAN’s objective to achieve net-zero emissions in the agricultural sector by 2050, emphasizing the significance of the regional strategy for carbon neutrality. This commitment was articulated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Phung Duc Tien, during the 46th online meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF), chaired by Myanmar on October 24.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister highlighted the critical role of agriculture in the region’s economy and the necessity to adopt sustainable practices to mitigate climate change impacts. The meeting underscored the collective efforts required by ASEAN member states to implement strategies aimed at reducing carbon footprints in agriculture while ensuring food security and economic growth.
