Vietnamese Party Official Explores Enhanced Ties with Finland

HELSINKI — Truong Thi Mai, a Politburo member and leading figure in Vietnam’s Party Central Committee, engaged in diplomatic discussions in Finland from November 2 to November 4. The visit entailed a series of meetings with Finnish parliamentary leaders, government officials, the Communist Party of Finland, ministry representatives, and the Finland – Vietnam Friendship Association.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the dialogues were focused on the progressive development of relations between the two nations. Mai provided an overview of Vietnam’s socio-economic growth, the strides made since its economic reforms, and the country’s current developmental ambitions and strategies.

During the conversations, Mai recommended enhancing high-level diplomatic exchanges and promoting broader cooperation in trade and investment. Additionally, she advocated for stronger ties in scientific, technological, and telecommunication sectors and called for improved conditions for the Vietnamese population in Finland.

The Finnish representatives welcomed the flourishing cooperation with Vietnam, highlighting the country as Finland’s premier partner in Southeast Asia. They suggested exploiting the opportunities presented by the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement to advance cooperation in information technology, energy, and forestry.

The significance of Mai’s visit was underscored by both sides, noting its contribution to deepening the bilateral relationship. They also exchanged views on global and regional matters, emphasizing adherence to international law and the UN Charter for resolving disputes and fostering EU-ASEAN relations, focusing on the connections between Finland and ASEAN.
