Warning Issued for Heavy Rain and Strong Waves in Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rain in several areas of Thailand, particularly in the northern provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Nong Khai, and Bueng Kan. The warning includes potential dangers such as flash floods and forest runoff.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department’s announcement, labeled as No. 6, highlights the expected impact of the weather conditions on July 13, 2025. The heavy rains are attributed to a monsoon trough passing through upper Myanmar, the upper North, upper Northeast, and upper Vietnam, combined with a low-pressure cell in the upper North. Additionally, the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is particularly strong.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to be cautious of the risks associated with heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation. These conditions may lead to flash floods and forest runoff, especially in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying regions. It is recommended to avoid traveling through areas experiencing thunderstorms and routes known for flooding issues, particularly in low-lying zones that may face short-term flooding.

The provinces anticipated to be affected by heavy to very heavy rain on July 13, 2025, include:

– Northern Region: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun

– Northeastern Region: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani

– Central Region: Lopburi, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, including Bangkok and its vicinity

– Eastern Region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, and Trat

– Southern Region: Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket

Additionally, the Andaman Sea is experiencing strong waves, with the upper Andaman Sea seeing waves 2-3 meters high and even higher in areas with thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea has waves around 2 meters high. Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy conditions. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should stay ashore during this period.

To ensure safety and minimize potential impacts, the public is encouraged to plan carefully and stay informed through the Meteorological Department’s announcements. Updates are available on the department’s website or via their 24-hour hotline.
