Wild elephant stomps on villager who shined a light to death

A wild elephant in Khao Yai National Park ran after and stomped on a villager, seriously injuring him, while he was shining a flashlight on the elephant in front of his house. The villagers said that the elephant was a young elephant and did not like the light shining on it. If it was shined on, it would run at him. The latest update is that the injured person has died.

Ruamkatanyu received a report of a wild elephant from Khao Yai National Park coming down to a community area, Village 3, Sarika Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Nayok District, Nakhon Nayok Province, before running into and attacking Mr. Nikhom, 58 years old, a local resident, who was seriously injured, unconscious, lying face down, his right shin torn from the knee by at least 30 centimeters, his back near the waist had abrasions approximately 30 centimeters long, his face had a laceration, and a pool of blood was found at the scene.

From asking the villagers who were at the scene, they said that before the incident, they and the injured person
saw a wild elephant walking towards them. Then the injured person used a flashlight to shine on the elephant. After a while, the elephant ran towards them. They and the injured person ran away. When they arrived at the scene, the injured person fell down and was attacked by the elephant.

Villagers and park officials said that the wild elephant was near the wall next to the road in the village. It is believed that when the incident happened, the injured person was in the house and opened the door to come out and take pictures and shine a flashlight on the elephant. However, this elephant did not like to be shined with a flashlight and would run at it. This evening, it came down to the area of ??Tham Sarika Temple twice and chased the villagers.

Officials from Khao Yai National Park and the Sarika Elephant Watch Unit chased the wild elephant and found it inside Wat Tamnak in Sarika Subdistrict, approximately 800 meters from the scene. They pushed the elephant back into the Khao Yai National Park area, which i
s outside the community area.

Later, at 6.34 am on September 7, 2024, Nakhon Nayok Hospital informed the relatives of Mr. Nikhom that he had died due to severe internal injuries, bleeding in the abdomen, and a laceration on the head. The doctor on duty took the body for an autopsy at the Ongkharak Rajabhat University Hospital and will hand the body over to the relatives for religious rites at Wat Tamnak, Sarika Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Nayok Province.
