Bangkok: Wisut Chainarun, Chairman of the Government Coalition Coordination Committee, expressed confidence that there will be no issues in selecting the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. He emphasized that the position, which belongs to the Pheu Thai Party, is not expected to face any challenges despite a competing nomination from Kla Tham.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wisut confirmed that the quota for the First Deputy Speaker is widely recognized as belonging to Pheu Thai. He reiterated that Mr. Pichet Chuamuangphan, a member of Pheu Thai, is the expected choice, as the position is traditionally held by the party. Although the Kla Tham Party has expressed interest, negotiations have already delineated party roles, and he anticipates a final decision at the Pheu Thai meeting.
When questioned about potential conflicts arising from Kla Tham’s interest, Mr. Wisut assured that negotiations have preemptively resolved such issues. He highlighted that cabinet positions have been allocated without disputes, and the Pheu Thai Party’s internal vote will determine the outcome. Mr. Wisut also mentioned that discussions with party elders and leaders are part of the standard process in reaching consensus.
Despite interest from the Kla Tham Party, Mr. Wisut emphasized the unity among coalition parties, noting that even with a narrow majority, they remain cohesive. He stated that the Pheu Thai Party will hold a democratic vote to finalize nominations, allowing members to express their preferences without external influence.
Addressing concerns about potential regional quotas or favoritism, Mr. Wisut downplayed speculation, reiterating that the party meeting will be an open forum for discussion. He confirmed that the party’s democratic principles guide the selection process, ensuring fairness and transparency.
Mr. Wisut concluded by expressing optimism about achieving a quorum and cooperation from ministers, assuring a smooth selection process. He dismissed concerns about any party voting against the election, emphasizing that discussions at leadership levels have led to mutual agreements and maintained harmony among coalition partners.
