The government whip announced that Pheu Thai will move forward with amending the constitution as much as possible, but if it is too late, it is not our fault.
Mr. Wisut Chainarun, the government whip, gave an interview regarding the observation that the amendment of the constitution will not be in time for this government, as the Pheu Thai Party campaigned, saying that today, don’t say that when the senators disagree with the MPs about the referendum law to hold a two-tier referendum. Currently, a joint committee of both parties has been set up. There are two solutions: if they can agree on a point that everyone accepts, the law will proceed and can be submitted for royal endorsement so that a referendum on the amendment of the constitution can be held early in 2025, along with the local elections. However, if they disagree, the law will be dropped. Then, within 180 days, the parliament can propose the referendum bill again. Therefore, for now, the joint committee must perform its duties first. We hope that
the law will be adjusted to the satisfaction of both parties so that the law can proceed.
When asked again whether the Pheu Thai Party campaigned to push forward with the amendment of the constitution, Mr. Wisut replied that when we announced it as a policy during the campaign, we promised the people that we would have the constitution amended by the Constituent Assembly to achieve a democratic constitution. But if it was not in time, it was not our fault because we tried to do our best, as much as we could. I would like people to see our work.
