Note from KontraS
To commemorate the 76th Police Day, the Commission for Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) issued a note which detailed the Police Force’s work performance during the period from July 2021 to June 2022, specifically pertaining to the human rights aspects.
The commission noted that the police force still widely used violence, authoritative gestures, arrogance, and excessive, inhumane acts.
It was said that police often hid their involvement whenever a violation, which was counterproductive to their task, occurred when they were supposed to enforce law, protect, and serve the public.
Other violent practices, such as uncontrolled gun use, torture, and others, still occurred.
The commission recorded that at least 677 cases of violence perpetrated by the police force, on July 2021 to June 2022 resulted in injuries to as many as 928 people, 1,240 people being killed, and 59 being detained.
