Yingluck Compensation Case to Reach Clarity by End of May, Says Treasury Secretary

Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Treasury has announced a timeline for the decision on whether to claim compensation from former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. By the end of May, it will be clear if Yingluck will be required to pay 10,028 million baht in damages related to the rice pledging case.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Laworn Sangsanit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, outlined the process for claiming compensation after the Supreme Administrative Court’s ruling. The ruling requires compensation for the G2G rice sales amounting to more than 10,028 million baht. The legal team is expected to summarize the findings and present them to Mr. Pichai Chunwachira, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, before any announcements are made.

When questioned on the timeline for clarification, Mr. Laworn indicated that a decision should be expected by the end of this month. Regarding the amount of compensation, Mr. Laworn noted that any potential adjustments would depend on the court’s verdict and deductions applicable under specific items.

Addressing queries about the necessity of forming a committee for this matter, Mr. Laworn explained that using the law on liability and violations involves clear procedural steps. He further mentioned that the Minister of Finance would provide further clarity on the issue.
