2022 ISSF Grand Prix to prepare Indonesian athletes for SEA Games

The Indonesian Shooting and Hunting Association (Perbakin) will make the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Rifle/Pistol Grand Prix due to be held in Jakarta in February as a preparation event for Indonesian athletes participating in the 2022 Hanoi Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).

Indonesia will host the ISSF championship for the first time. It is scheduled to take place at the Senayan Shooting Range, Jakarta, on February 8-18, 2022 by implementing strict health protocols.

“The facilities and infrastructure of the tournament have been ready. Indonesian athletes have also kept practicing at the venue,” Daily Chairman of Perbakin Siswanto told ANTARA on Sunday.

He has continued that the tournament is one of the trial events for the athletes to face the Hanoi SEA Games that will be held on May 12-23, 2022.

Currently, there are 21 athletes nurtured by Perbakin’s national training center. The number of the athletes will increase as the SEA Games approaches, he has informed.

Perbakin will continue to coordinate with various stakeholders, including the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Indonesia Olympic Committee (KOI), regarding the addition of the number of athletes at the training center, he said.

“We shall coordinate regarding the budget for the additional athletes. We have been certain that we shall add the number of athletes to become around 30 people,” he stated.

Perbakin has targeted to surpass their achievements at the 2019 Philippines SEA Games of seven gold, six silver and two bronze medals – which made Indonesia to top the shooting event of the 2019 SEA Games.

Apart from the 2022 Jakarta ISSF Rifle/Pistol Grand Prix, Indonesian shooting athletes will also participate in various other events to prepare for this year’s SEA Games, Siswanto has said.

Shooting is one of 14 prominent sports that is included in the government’s National Sports Grand Design (DBON). It is aimed to foster athletes to gain achievements at the Olympic and Paralympic level.

The other 13 prominent sports comprise athletics, badminton, rock climbing, artistic gymnastics, cycling, archery, swimming, rowing, karate, taekwondo, wushu, pencak silat, and weightlifting.
