The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 following random tests at various local schools conducting face-to-face learning (PTM) reached 229, according to the Bandung City Health Service.

Head of the Bandung Health Service, Ahyani Raksanagara, noted that 7,511 people had been tested. Out of the figure, 229 people tested positive, 6,755 people tested negative, while the rest have not yet come out with results.

“The number of schools that were examined reached 196, while the results that have been released were only of 182 schools,” Raksanagara stated on Friday.

Out of the 229 people, who tested positive, 214 were students and 15 were teachers. The schools that were tested comprised those offering various levels of education ranging from elementary, junior high, and high schools, to vocational schools.

Raksanagara informed that all the confirmed positive people did not experience any symptoms.

She noted that out of the 182 schools, 47 schools had a confirmed percentage of COVID-19 exceeding five percent. The percentage figure is a comparison of the number of cases in a school with the total number of students participating in PTM in the school.

The 47 schools can likely discontinue PTM temporarily and return to the distance learning system (PJJ). This decision was taken according to the regulation stating that schools, with more than five percent COVID-19 cases, must stop their PTM.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 from PTM can likely increase again since there are 14 schools where test results were not released.

“We also continue to conduct testing and tracking to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” she added.
