5 Bang Khen Police Officers Transferred Following Gambling Den Arrest

Bangkok: Five police officers from Bang Khen Police Station have been transferred following the arrest of a gambling den at Saphan Mai. This morning, 72 gamblers, mostly elderly, were taken to Don Mueang District Court for detention.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Sek Sit Supha-uan, Deputy Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 2, signed an order assigning a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident. On July 4, at approximately 2:00 p.m., arresting officers investigated a suspicious location believed to be a gambling den in Soi Phahon Yothin 52, Khlong Thanon Subdistrict, Sai Mai District, Bangkok. The suspects were arrested on charges of organizing and participating in illegal gambling activities.

As part of the investigation, five senior officers from Bang Khen Police Station, including Pol. Col. Anan Worasart, Pol. Lt. Col. Sanphich Sirisunthon, Pol. Lt. Col. Kosonpiya Sima, Pol. Lt. Col. Sunthorn Traiwet, and Pol. Lt. Col. Yuranan Petchmanee, have been reassigned to the Metropolitan Police Bureau Division 2’s Operations Center. Pol. Col. Athit Phromnok will act as Superintendent of Bang Khen Police Station during the investigation.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Sayam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, emphasized the need for strict measures against gambling dens and ordered the investigation to determine the involvement of police personnel. He reiterated the importance of eradicating such activities from the area.

This morning, suspects from the Saphan Mai casino were transported in three detention vehicles to the court. Relatives of the suspects claimed that the casino had been operating for many years, recently reopening 24 hours a day. The Don Mueang Provincial Court has filed a lawsuit against 70 gamblers arrested from the hi-lo gambling den, with all defendants confessing to the charges.
