A total of 660 runners from five countries will participate in the “Sleman Temple Run #7” on November 20, organized by the Sleman District Tourism Office along with a runners’ community.
“The start and finish lines are in the Banyunibo Temple complex, Bokoharjo, Prambanan, Sleman,” Head of the Sleman Tourism Office Ishadi Zayid noted here on Wednesday.
Zayid said the route of this sports tourism activity will cross several temples in the Prambanan hilly area.
According to the office head, the Sleman Temple Run #7 will compete the running categories of 7K, 13K, and 25K, with a target of 500 participants from across Indonesia and abroad.
“This event is an international standard running competition that has a different concept from other running events in Indonesia. This activity is the only running concept in the world that is presented by running across the buildings of temples in the hills of Prambanan,” he explained.
Banyunibo Temple, Barong Temple, Ijo Temple, Arca Gupala Temple, Ratu Boko Temple, and other ancient sites and natural attractions are some historical and cultural temples that the runners will cross.
Zayid said this annual event aims to introduce the sport of trail running and increase tourist visits in Sleman District.
“Especially visits in temples, tourist destinations, and tourist villages in Sleman,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of Trail Runners Yogyakarta, Rostian Gamananda, pointed out that apart from Indonesia, the runners are coming from the United States, Australia, India, and Canada.
“The event, which will be held on November 20, 2022, is very interesting for fans or runners, because it crosses the natural scenery and several cultural heritage buildings,” he said.
