Sai ma: A 90-year-old grandmother, Grandma Phayung, has turned to the media for assistance after her granddaughter allegedly deceived her into transferring 3.5 million baht and subsequently evicted her from her home. Grandma Phayung, who now finds herself without shelter, reached out to a long-time neighbor for temporary refuge.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded in a village in the Sai Ma area of Mueang Nonthaburi District. Grandma Phayung explained that her granddaughter, along with her daughter, sister, and grandson-in-law, forced her out of the house. Having no place to stay, she sought help from a neighbor she has known for over 30 years.
Grandma Phayung recounted that when her family members were struggling in Chachoengsao Province, they came to live with her and she helped raise her two great-grandchildren. She had saved 3.5 million baht, intending to allocate 1 million baht each to her great-granddaughter, a doctor, and her great-grandson, a university student. The remaining 1.5 million baht was meant for her own expenses in her later years. Earlier this year, her granddaughter persuaded her to transfer the savings to the great-grandchildren’s accounts, citing concerns about bank stability. However, Grandma Phayung later discovered that her personal savings had also been transferred, and when she refused to hand over her gold assets, she was evicted from the house.
Currently, Grandma Phayung is relying on the kindness of old friends and is in possession of some gold jewelry. However, she lacks access to her personal belongings, including clothes, medication, and 100,000 baht in cash, which were left behind. She has reached out to reporters to help her find a suitable place to stay, such as a nursing home.
Grandma Su, a 75-year-old friend of Grandma Phayung, expressed her sympathy and has provided temporary shelter. However, Grandma Su herself is unwell and has hired assistance due to her own family’s absence abroad. She is appealing to reporters to connect with relevant organizations to ensure proper care for Grandma Phayung.
