Bangkok: An advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs has filed a complaint with the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) after a photo was altered to defame her. She revealed she knows the origin of the post and vows to pursue legal action to the fullest extent of the law.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Chayika Wongnapachandra, advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, filed a complaint with Police Lieutenant General Trairong Phiwpaen, Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD). The complaint alleges that her photo was altered and accompanied by a false caption accusing her of being a Cambodian spy. The incident involved the insertion of false information into a computer system. The photo was posted on Facebook and the X application, where it was widely shared on social media. This complaint follows accusations filed previously at Khlong Tan Police Station.
The Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division noted that the current situation is a period of conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. Thailand is already dealing with fake news and information from Cambodia, but there are still individuals using false information to create internal conflict. He stated that this behavior is inappropriate. He emphasized the significance of Ms. Chayika’s complaint as a societal warning and an opportunity to combat misinformation from Cambodia.
Ms. Chayika expressed that she has consistently fulfilled her advisory duties to the Minister as assigned. However, she has faced numerous instances of slander, including defamation, image manipulation, and the insertion of false information into computer systems. Although she is generally reluctant to engage in legal action due to the time and costs involved, the widespread distribution of the defamatory content, including comments, shares, and forwarding in LINE groups, has compelled her to act. A preliminary investigation has identified the perpetrators, who will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Ms. Chayika further stated that all Thais, regardless of their status, should contribute positively to the country and be part of Team Thailand. She urged people to stop using false information to attack each other and create division, as such actions lead to misunderstandings and damage.
