Kwanyarko: Nana Kwasi Nyarko III, Chief of Akwamu-Kwanyarko and Twafohene of Benkum Division of the Akwamu Traditional Area, has called for the construction of staff accommodation at the Kwanyarko Health Centre to improve productivity and healthcare delivery. He made the call during the celebration of World AIDS Day 2025, organised by the Asuogyaman District Health Directorate at Kwanyarko in the Eastern Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Nyarko III identified the lack of accommodation for health workers as a significant challenge, noting that some staff members have to rent houses far from the facility, impacting their punctuality and efficiency. He expressed hope that assistance from Mr. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, the Member of Parliament (MP), and other influential individuals could help resolve this issue, thereby enhancing service delivery.
The Chief also advocated for the expansion of the Kwanyarko Health Centre into a polyclinic, highlighting the availability of ample land for development. He emphasized that an upgrade would benefit not only the people of Kwanyarko but also neighboring communities such as Apeguso, Aboasa, and Nnudu, thus improving access to healthcare and supporting sustainable development. Nana Nyarko III appealed to the MP, who also serves as the Deputy Minister for Finance, to facilitate the expansion.
Demonstrating his commitment to the health centre, Nana Nyarko III donated GHS3,000 to the management to aid in the purchase of chairs and other furniture for patients and visitors. Furthermore, he urged the government to ensure that casual workers at the facility are enrolled onto the government payroll to improve their welfare.
