Vice President Ma’ruf Amin held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Egypt, Mostafa Kamal Madbouly, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on Tuesday to discuss climate action, trade, and education.
The meeting took place at the Pavilion of the Egyptian Prime Minister’s Office at the Sharm El Sheikh International Convention Center (SHICC).
During the meeting, which lasted around 60 minutes, the two leaders discussed issues related to climate change and bilateral cooperation in trade and education, according to a press release on Wednesday.
Amin lauded Egypt’s role in global efforts to overcome climate issues. He said that as developing countries, Egypt and Indonesia, must continue to encourage the realization of the international commitment to overcome the global issue from all aspects.
“This includes funding, capacity building, and technology transfer from developed countries. The leadership of Egypt at COP27 and Indonesia at the G20 has become a momentum to deal with various crucial issues related to the economy and the environment,” he said.
According to him, the cooperation between the two countries in trade has continued to improve, as reflected by the increase in the value of bilateral trade by more than 50 percent to US$1.86 billion.
Thus, the establishment of a joint trade committee and the development of a preferential trade agreement between the two countries can be pursued immediately in order to improve the trade performance further, he said.
Further, he expressed his gratitude for the provision of scholarships and facilities for Indonesian students and university students in Egypt.
He said he hopes that the good relations in education would continue to be strengthened and more Indonesian university students will study in Egypt and vice versa.
“Currently, there are more than 10,300 Indonesian university students in Egypt. I hope the two countries’ cooperation can continue to be strengthened, including in providing protection for Indonesian students and university students in Egypt,” he added.
During Tuesday’s meeting, Prime Minister Madbouly said that Egypt will continue to enhance bilateral relations with Indonesia, especially economic cooperation.
Egypt continues to want to strengthen cooperation in the field of education, he added. In fact, according to him, the Egyptian government and society are pleased with the large number of Indonesian students coming to Egypt.
“We have Al-Azhar University, which has a lot of Indonesian students whose number reaches 11 thousand, and this is a source of happiness for us,” he remarked.
