Bangkok: “Angkana” is urging the Senate to discuss the motion to delay the selection of the Independent Organization Committee, highlighting concerns about legality and legitimacy.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Angkana Neelapaijit addressed the outcome of the Senate whip meeting, which resulted in a decision to postpone the vote on the selection of independent organization committee members. She noted that while initial reports of collusion lacked specific names, the current situation involves named individuals who have been summoned by the Election Commission (EC) to acknowledge charges in three separate lots. Ms. Angkana stressed the importance of Senate consideration and the opportunity for accused members to explain the reasons behind the postponement. She highlighted that nearly half of the Senate members are implicated, suggesting the need for a thorough review.
Ms. Angkana, a former member of an independent organization, argued for patience, noting that each independent body has personnel and committee members capable of maintaining operations. She raised concerns about the implications of approving nominees who may later face investigations or removal, questioning the Senate’s course of action in such scenarios.
In response to questions about the potential illegitimacy of appointing an independent body if accused senators are found guilty, Ms. Angkana expressed her belief that legality alone does not suffice and that ethical considerations are equally important. She emphasized that while actions may be legal, they may still lack legitimacy.
