Cambodian Soldiers Dig 650-Meter ‘Kulet’ Amid Border Tensions

Ubon Ratchathani: Cambodian soldiers have excavated a 650-meter long “Kulet” from the Sattaban tree to the Lao intersection, a site that recently became the focal point of a clash with Thai soldiers.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident was reported on May 28, 2015, following a confrontation between Thai and Cambodian forces at Chong Bok in Ubon Ratchathani Province. The discovery of the Kulet, stretching 650 meters in a disputed area, reignited tensions, prompting Thai soldiers to negotiate in accordance with the MOU 2000, which the Cambodian side allegedly violated for the second time. The situation escalated when Cambodian soldiers reportedly returned fire, leading to a skirmish. Currently, leaders from both sides are engaged in negotiations, with the Thai troops urging the Cambodian forces to vacate the contested area.
