Bangkok: The Football Association of Thailand has officially announced the appointment of Anthony Hudson as the head coach of the Thai national men’s football team. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the FA Thailand building, where Hudson was introduced to the media and the public.
According to Thai News Agency, the press conference took place on October 23, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. In his introductory remarks, Hudson expressed gratitude towards Madam Pang, the association president, and the executives for the opportunity. Hudson shared insights into his football background, influenced by his father, a former Premier League footballer, and his extensive international coaching experience in countries such as Bahrain, New Zealand, and Qatar. He emphasized the special place Thailand holds in his heart due to its culture, people, and passion for football.
Hudson elaborated on his role as a technical director, highlighting his involvement in developing Thai football through youth player selections and various national team activities. He stressed the need for a consistent approach across national teams, aiming to build a cohesive football identity for Thailand. Hudson underscored the importance of creating a structured system that allows young athletes to grow along a defined path and emphasized the role of experienced players in mentoring youth.
He also addressed technical challenges, such as foreign player quotas in the Thai League, and the need for developing mixed-race players with international potential. Hudson expressed his short-term goal of leading the team to the Asian Cup and his desire to make Thai players proud to represent their country. He acknowledged the importance of fan support and criticism, expressing his commitment to improving the team’s performance and results.
Hudson’s immediate focus will be on the upcoming matches during the FIFA Day in November 2025, starting with a friendly match against Singapore at Thammasat Stadium, followed by a crucial away game against Sri Lanka in the 2027 Asian Cup qualification. Hudson conveyed his confidence in the team’s potential and his belief in the possibility of qualifying for the World Cup, emphasizing the need for continuous development in youth and coaching.
The press conference concluded with Hudson’s appreciation for the efforts of his predecessor, Coach Ishii, and his intention to build on the team’s recent developments. Hudson’s approach aims for evolution, rather than revolution, as he works towards the advancement of Thai football.
