Minister Atthakorn Confident in Thai Athletes’ Success at SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games

Bangkok: “Atthakorn” is confident that the Thai athletes will be the gold medalists at the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games. The Minister of Tourism and Sports expressed confidence that the 33rd SEA Games and 13th ASEAN Para Games, to be hosted by Thailand, will see Thai athletes win gold medals and exceed their targets. He revealed that sports science, supported by the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), will significantly enhance the athletes’ abilities.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, revealed the progress of the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, which will be hosted in three main cities: Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla provinces from December 9-20, 2025, and the 13th ASEAN Para Games from January 20-26, 2026, in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. He stated that for this SEA Games, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and the Sports Association of Thailand have jointly assessed and set a target of 252 gold medals, which he believes is a feasible number.

However, athletes from various ASEAN nations have improved significantly. When every nation sends athletes to compete, they also want gold medals. Therefore, if we don’t prepare rigorously, the goal of 252 gold medals may not be reached. Therefore, we must be prepared and have good management, especially the Sports Authority of Thailand, which fully supports athlete preparation. We are closely monitoring sports science, using technology and equipment to develop athletes’ abilities. This ensures that we can reach that point, or even exceed our target.

“The ASEAN Para Games, in addition to being a competition that brings joy to Thai sports fans, is also important in providing pride and happiness to the athletes themselves. We currently have athletes who are ready and have set a target of 233 gold medals, and we believe we can achieve that goal,” said Mr. Atthakorn.

For the 33rd SEA Games, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has collaborated with the Sports Association of Thailand to estimate that the Thai athletes will win 252 gold medals, while the 13th ASEAN Para Games will win 233 gold medals.
