Bangkok: Anudit urged the government to expedite the ICC lawsuit against Cambodia for the bombing that resulted in the loss of the legs of five Thai soldiers, confident that the Ottawa Convention is clearly in violation. Captain Anudit Nakornthap, strategy chairman of the Kla Dharma Party (KLD), gave an interview regarding the incident in which a Thai soldier stepped on a landmine and lost his left leg while on patrol near the Chub Ta Mok base near Prasat Ta Muen Thom in Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province. Since July 2015, five Thai soldiers have lost their legs. He stated that the incident clearly indicates that Thailand did not plant the landmines, as no Cambodian soldiers have ever stepped on them. Cambodia monitors the areas we patrol and, during times when no troops are on duty, secretly places mines, leading to the increasing number of Thai soldiers stepping on landmines.
According to Thai News Agency, “The government must expedite the process of bringing the incident to international attention, as Cambodia’s actions clearly violate the Ottawa Convention. The matter could be brought before the International Criminal Court (ICC). I believe the government and military are aware of this issue and should not neglect it. However, the public should be informed of the progress of the case,” said Capt. Anudit.
Regarding rumors that Cambodia is attempting to use drones to intercept F-16 takeoffs in the event of a future conflict, Capt. Anudit stated that this information is unlikely to occur because of the speed of F-16 fighter jets. No one would be able to force drones to meet each other, whether at takeoff or mid-air. It’s highly unlikely. Rest assured, there’s no need to fear this.
