Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has stated that the decision on the proposed 400 baht minimum wage increase, considered as a potential New Year’s gift, rests with the Tripartite Committee.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin emphasized that the increase in minimum wage, announced by the Ministry of Labor for the New Year 2025, is part of a governmental policy initiated under the former Prime Minister Settha Thavisin. The decision process involves the Tripartite Committee, which includes representatives from employees, employers, and the government. Anutin clarified that while the minister can facilitate coordination, the final decision is made by the committee.

In response to inquiries about whether the wage increase will be implemented by January 1, 2025, Anutin pointed out that the policy was included in the governmental statements from the administration of Mr. Settha to the current government led by Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra. The potential
implementation as a New Year’s gift for the Thai people will depend on the committee’s assessment of its appropriateness.
