Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, expressed skepticism regarding recent claims by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Phumtham Vejjayachai. Phumtham, who currently oversees the Ministry of Interior, stated that the Ministry under the Pheu Thai Party’s administration is better than its predecessors. Anutin responded with laughter, suggesting that the public should instead assess the situation by evaluating the state of public health.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin elaborated on his skepticism when questioned by a reporter. He hinted that the reporter’s query about his disbelief came with a smile, implying that the performance and effectiveness of the ministries were already well understood by the public.
The conversation also touched upon the Pheu Thai Party’s potential influence over the Ministry of Interior, particularly concerning matters like online gambling. Anutin remarked that the Bhumjaithai Party had already distanced itself from such initiatives, indicating that any further pursuit by Pheu Thai would result in a divergence between the two parties.
Further commenting on the political dynamics within the cabinet, Anutin noted that Pheu Thai’s primary interest seemed to be in controlling the Interior Ministry. He suggested that the party’s efforts to form a robust government were primarily motivated by this interest. Anutin emphasized that the true measure of a ministry’s success lies in its performance and service to the public, rather than the mere possession of power. He warned that if Pheu Thai equates holding the Interior Ministry with wielding power, they might be in for a disappointment, as the permanent civil servants have established protocols for ensuring correct actions.
