Ubon Ratchathani: “Anutin” visited the Thai-Cambodian border area, confirming that Ubon Ratchathani is not isolated, stating that no one will invade, while the locals admitted to being afraid, but were relieved that there were soldiers looking after their safety.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, led a team to Ubon Ratchathani Province. The first stop was the Border Area Development Center, Ban Thung Somdet, Village No. 17, Tambon Dom Pradit, Nam Yuen District, to deliver supplies to soldiers, Village Defense Volunteers (VDP) on duty in the area. Then, they went to see two bunkers, namely the Ban Paet Um School bunker and the Ban Kho Temple bunker, to encourage the local people.
For this visit, Mr. Anutin traveled by private plane before taking a helicopter from Ubon Ratchathani to the border area with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration. Before Wednesday, June 11, he invited the governors of the seven provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border to a meeting in Ubon Ratchathani to ensure the most effective approach to taking care of the people.
Mr. Anutin introduced the governors and deputy governors of seven provinces, as well as MPs from both the Bhumjaithai Party and other parties who came to encourage everyone, especially the soldiers who are an important force, and assured that no one would invade even a millimeter. He also confirmed that Ubon Ratchathani is not alone. All Thais are ready to hold the line and ensure safety.
Locals who came to welcome Mr. Anutin’s group admitted that they were afraid of the current situation because they had an accident where they stepped on a landmine 20 years ago, which caused them to lose their legs. It was one of the first places near the Thai military base. But today, they are relieved that there are more soldiers nearby to look after their safety.
Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spokesman for the Ministry of Education who also visited the area, talked about the readiness of schools in the seven provinces on the Thai-Cambodian border. He said that the Minister of Education has ordered various educational areas to monitor the situation and has instructed school administrators that if they feel that students and staff are not safe, the school can immediately order the school to close. If they cannot teach at school, they will let the students take their homework home to do. If any school has technology, they will allow online learning. In addition, check the readiness of the bunkers and practice the emergency response plan. He believes that morale and encouragement should still be good and the situation has not escalated.
