Anutin Stresses National Sovereignty Over Personal Relationships Amid Criticism

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, addressed the ongoing criticism surrounding the relationship between the Shinawatra family and Cambodian leadership. He emphasized that personal relationships should never take precedence over national sovereignty.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin expressed his confidence that no national leader would prioritize personal ties over their country’s interests. He firmly believes that Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra would not compromise Thailand’s welfare for the sake of personal relationships, including those with Cambodian relatives. Anutin highlighted that the nation’s interests and the welfare of the Thai people are paramount.

Anutin also addressed concerns regarding the former Prime Minister, who is Paethongtarn Shinawatra’s father. He recalled instances where the former Prime Minister took decisive actions, such as deploying military equipment and aircraft, to assert Thailand’s position during disputes. This, Anutin asserted, demonstrated that for leaders at this level, personal relationships are never deemed more critical than the nation’s sovereignty. He reassured the public that there is no risk of Thailand’s interests being exchanged for personal friendships.

Regarding the specific issue linked to June 13, Anutin refrained from commenting, citing it as beyond his authority. However, he expressed confidence in the honor and integrity of the country’s leaders. He urged the public to avoid discussing this matter further to prevent misunderstandings and confusion. Anutin underscored that the entire cabinet, high-ranking officials, and the general Thai populace prioritize Thailand’s benefits above all else, reinforcing his confidence in the nation’s leadership.
