Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, is poised to approve a flood relief budget aimed at assisting three key agencies in registering those affected by the recent floods. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure, stating that roads and expressways are already in place, and he plans to focus on building drainage channels to further mitigate the impact of flooding.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin discussed the current state of flood preparedness and highlighted the urgency of approving budgets for flood relief. He noted that projects that have been pending since the previous government, particularly those that offer substantial benefits in flood prevention and management, will be prioritized and expedited.
Anutin remarked, “We’ve already built expressways and roads for cars and vehicles, so now we need to build roads to allow as many drainage channels as possible to minimize the suffering of our fellow citizens.”
He also addressed the need for relief assistance, acknowledging that the transition in government has caused delays in registration and other administrative processes. Anutin assured that he would accelerate the registration of eligible individuals through collaboration with the provinces, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), and the Department of Local Administration (DLA). These are the three primary agencies under his jurisdiction, and he plans to utilize the relief budget set aside for public assistance, ensuring swift disbursement of funds.
