Bangkok: The Commander of Army Region 2 has firmly stated that the territorial issue concerning the three castles and the Channel Bok will not be taken to the International Court of Justice. Delivering a special lecture to fifth-year students at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, the commander emphasized the position that any claims on the land would require direct confrontation rather than international adjudication.
According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang addressed the students on the complexities surrounding the territorial dispute. He clarified that for a case to be brought before the International Court of Justice, mutual consent from both involved parties is necessary. He noted that without acceptance from the other party, the court would not consider the case, a stance aligned with the Thai government’s position.
Lt. Gen. Boonsin further reassured the audience that there was no need to fear international litigation over this matter. He reiterated his stance to the government, asserting that the land has long been under Thai control, and any desire to contest this should be met with direct action. He concluded his remarks by suggesting that if his statement reached Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, it might provoke a response.
