Army Region 2 Commander States Cambodia Cannot Be Trusted Amid Ongoing Border Dispute

Bangkok: The Commander of Army Region 2 recently addressed a gathering at the National Defense College, highlighting the ongoing 50-50 border dispute with Cambodia. He expressed distrust towards Cambodia and affirmed his readiness to engage in conflict if necessary. Preparations are underway for discussions with the RBC at the end of August, aiming for mutual understanding and commitment to national interests.

According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, Commander of the Second Army Region, emphasized the resilience and unity of Thai soldiers during a ceremony for providing assistance to injured troops and reinforcing border defenses. He noted the challenges faced along the nearly 1,000-kilometer Thai-Cambodian border and commended the efforts of the soldiers’ children in supporting their country.

Lt. Gen. Phadklang acknowledged the rigorous defense maintained at all levels, despite some attacks necessitating offensive measures, which have occasionally resulted in injuries. He shared that His Majesty the King is deeply concerned for the affected soldiers and has accepted them as royal patients.

The Commander expressed gratitude for the items donated for frontline soldiers, highlighting the urgency of some needs that exceed the available budget from the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, the Royal Thai Army, and the government. He appreciated the support and inquiries from various quarters.

Lt. Gen. Phadklang reiterated the current 50-50 situation and voiced skepticism about Cambodia’s reliability. He assured that the Second Army Region, under the oversight of the Commander-in-Chief, is actively engaged in ensuring readiness and fostering friendly discussions. He emphasized preparedness in case of future clashes.

He announced plans for a meeting with the Cambodian army commander at the end of August to seek understanding and pave the way for a subsequent GBC meeting, with a focus on national interests. He reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his duties and the expectations placed upon him by the public.
