Bangkok: The 2nd Army Region has released a comprehensive summary of the ongoing battle situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, highlighting significant military engagements and humanitarian efforts. Cambodian forces have been actively using BM-21 rocket launchers, and there are indications of potential deployment of long-range weapons, prompting a measured response from the Thai military, which is also closely monitoring cyber threats.
According to Thai News Agency, the Cambodian military has concentrated its offensive on key locations, including Hill 677, Phu Phi, and the Pha Mor I Daeng – Preah Vihear area, with notable missile activity detected near Samrong Airport in Udon Meechai Province. In response, Thai forces have strategically targeted areas such as Chong Bok and Prasat Ta Muen Thom, aiming to counteract the threat level. Additionally, cyber threats have been identified, with Cambodian hackers infiltrating governmental systems, while landmines have been discovered in frontline areas, necessitating thorough inspections by Thai forces.
In the midst of the hostilities, the Chong An Ma, Phu Phi, and Phu Makhuea regions have witnessed intense clashes, resulting in numerous injuries. Notably, a misfire incident reportedly occurred when Cambodian forces mistakenly targeted their own units due to communication errors amidst the chaos of reinforcements. On humanitarian grounds, the Thai side has returned the bodies of 12 Cambodian soldiers who perished in the Phu Makhuea conflict.
Future projections suggest an escalation in the use of long-range weapons by Cambodian forces, with continued clashes anticipated in several key areas. Cyber threats and espionage activities are also expected to persist. In response, provincial authorities have facilitated the evacuation of over 119,000 residents from high-risk zones to designated civilian gathering areas across Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces, reflecting a significant increase in displaced individuals.
The conflict has inflicted damage on residential areas, with artillery shells and BM-21 rockets causing destruction in several districts. Casualties include two injuries and one fatality in Sisaket Province. In a demonstration of solidarity, the Royal Volunteer Spirit initiative has mobilized a significant number of volunteers to assist affected communities, providing essential services and disseminating critical information.
In support of the affected populace, royal kitchens have been established in the impacted provinces, distributing over 153,000 food boxes in a span of just a few days. His Majesty the King has extended his patronage to the deceased and injured from the border conflict, underscoring a commitment to humanitarian care.
Authorities urge the public to remain calm, adhere to official guidance, and avoid areas with unexploded ordnance. They emphasize the importance of relying on verified information to prevent misinformation and ensure public safety.
