Bangkok: The Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand has expressed confidence that Thailand’s political changes will not impede preparations for the SEA Games, which are just 90 days away. ASEAN media representatives recently visited Rajamangala National Stadium and the media center to assess readiness.
According to Thai News Agency, more than 200 media members from ASEAN participated in the BROADCASTER MEETING and PRESS BRIEFING for the 33rd SEA Games. They visited Rajamangala National Stadium, the venue for the SEA Games’ opening and closing ceremonies and the football final match. The media delegation also visited the New Media Operations Center on Vibhavadi Road, housing the International Broadcasting Center (IBC) and the Media Center (MPC). Mr. Supapong Chawlaen, Director of the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand, welcomed the media.
The new media operations center will feature three studios, sized 1,000, 400, and 100 square meters, serving as the IBC. A 500-square-meter press conference room will function as the media center (MPC). Additionally, the facility will include a food court and parking for 400 vehicles.
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, assured that political changes would not impact the SEA Games’ preparations, which are proceeding systematically and according to plan. He is confident in the new government’s full support for the event.
Thana Chaiprasit, Vice President and Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, announced that athlete registration for the SEA Games has closed with over 10,000 athletes, including 300 from Cambodia. Registration has been extended to September 15, and numbers may rise if the political situation stabilizes.
Thai volleyball players “Pure” Ajraporn Kongyot and “Omsin” Sasipaporn Chantawisut expressed readiness to defend their SEA Games gold medal following the World Championship. They encouraged Thai sports fans to support the event.
The 33rd SEA Games will be hosted in Thailand across Songkhla, Chonburi, and Bangkok from December 9-20, with the 13th ASEAN Para Games following in Nakhon Ratchasima Province from January 20-26 next year.
