According to Thai News Agency, the Bureau of the Royal Household announced the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, prompting the immediate commencement of the mourning decorations at the Bang Sai Arts and Crafts Centre. The atmosphere inside the center was filled with sadness, as officials and members of the public gathered to arrange the venue simply and respectfully to pay their respects to His Majesty.
Ms. Somsri Chanto, 55, who received vocational training at the Bang Sai Arts and Crafts Centre, shared her personal connection to the monarchy. She had been closely following news of His Majesty’s illness, and upon learning of the passing, felt deeply saddened. Ms. Somsri described herself as a country bumpkin with little knowledge, whose life was transformed by His Majesty’s kindness. After beginning her studies at the center in 1992, she was able to build a career selling silk fabrics, a testament to the opportunities provided by His Majesty’s benevolence.
